Lorraine (Degree, Age Discrimination)

Effective, April 1, 2016 I was laid off from my employer was a business need. Unfortunately, the executives are paid bonuses and the other staff suffers without being compensated in eight years or more. I was lucky to land the job after coming from a corporate background. Initially, my mindset was to add value and be an individual contributor. I had taken a low pay-cut, because I was "HUMBLE" and more importantly thankful to be offered work. At any rate...I'm finding that its required to have a degree to answer telephones. I'm seasonal and have strong working ethics. Experience doesn't play a paramount role in even being afforded an interview. The climate is very challenging trying to seek work these days. After reading some of the testimonies, I realized that I'm not alone with the frustrations of trying to find work. I'm very customer service driven, great interpersonal skills, problem solving, anticipating ones needs, can do attitude and will support the mission/vision of any employer. I was the first point-of-contact at the largest non-profit organization. I paid bills, processed expense reports, front-desk receptionist, supported C-Suite and upper management team, office upkeep, etc. I too just want to work and make my contributions to society. I don't want to work and make contributions to society. PRAYER IS THE KEY!!!!!!

You’re not alone Loraine. The workplace has made some significant changes over the years. Some positive but the negative changes in areas regarding the common use of impersonal hiring practices and the blatant disregard for employee/employer commitment and loyalty to look out for one another are major bummers. Your right, experience like your has value and would be a benefit to any organization but in unfortunately in this economy with millions of college educated, over-qualified, job applicants the system favors employers. They can raise their hiring standards because the the over-abundance of professional job seekers. Finding a job is a numbers game.. Apply often and everywhere you feel qualified then hope (pray) to make the right connection. Don’t get discouraged and keep moving forward!
