working women: how have you stood up for yourself lately

whether you know it or not women are treated differently in the workplace (google it, there's a great article from business insider about it here http://www.businessinsider.com/subtle-ways-women-treated-differently-work-2014-6)

so women are constantly having to prove themselves in work situations where men would otherwise be believed in or heard

sally yates did some kickass defending of her position and her choices lately

ladies: how are you standing up for yourself when you're looking into the eyes of the people challenging you?

Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens

I was recently fired from my job of 7 1/2 years for standing up for myself. The pharmacist I worked with was arrogant, verbally abusive and condescending not just to me but to other co workers and customers as well. His temper even sent the store manager fleeing in tears at least twice. He threw things, cursed loudly on a regular basis, and despite customer and employee complaints to management and corporate and both being well aware of how he acted, he was still allowed to come to work every day and put people through hell. I usually kept my mouth shut around him and just did my job because I hate confrontations, and I needed my job. On the night of the incident that got us both fired he was cursing yelling and belittling me over something I had no control over, I finally opened my mouth and basically told him not so nicely I didn't appreciate being treated that way, gathered my stuff and went on break. I was seriously afraid to go back afterwards so the manager on duty let me finish my shift in another part of the store. Fast forward three days, we were called to a meeting with the store manager and the district manager who fired us both. That pharmacist had nothing to lose because he was about to quit anyway, he already had another job lined up. I, on the other hand, am still trying to find a job over two months later as the bills pile up. Sorry if that's not the type of story you were looking for, and sorry it was so long! Thank you to whoever reads it.
