Something I learned at #MontessoriLifePrimarySchool,Swaziland ...
I learned a lot. One of them is teaching in a totally different background from most African public schools environment. l learned on how to teach in a homeroom classroom.
I also learned that learners may learn without using desks and chairs and may even understand and do better and fast.
I also learned that learners are able to explore those hidden talents since there is no stipulated timetable for the day. Learners are also free to start with the classroom subjects they enjoy most, since they are given work for the day in the morning, all instructions in the morning, then throughout the day if they are in class they may start doing the work they are comfortable with, and leave the challenging work for homework or asking later in class.
Learners in that way learn to be independent. Since there are usually 3 Grades per class, learners in the next Grade are able to help those in previous Grade. Thus making them to master concepts from previous Grade.
Fast paced learners are able to help weak learners and to be able to explore their own hidden talents or even do extra work for more understanding.
Montessori is also not about a competitive environment but for understanding and being the best learner that you can be.
Teachers are able to learn from others and to learn from the learners.l had become a lifelong scholar at Montessori.
My way of presentation to students has changed. I have to keep digging for more information. You do not have to become intimidated by learning something from a student but learn more and be delighted.
Tne fact that students and teachers are from different cultural backgrounds,l have learned a lot and have had more understanding of interpersonal relationships.
