Broken heart, busted wallet
I recently had a life threatening health issue and ended up having a pacemaker. My Dr says I could apply for disability. Is it worth the wait or should I just get a job that is not strenuous. Please Help.

Do what your doctor is telling you because you may be surprised about the benefits that are awarded to you. Plus you have his support trust him.

Jacqueline, sorry for your health issue. In my opinion the first thing you need to do is heal. You need to get better. If your Dr. is saying you could apply for disability he may be saying you are not ready to return to work. There is short term (state) and long term (federal) disability. Start off with short term, get better and then go back to work.

SSI or SSDI People say it is really hard to get disability. I had no lawyer had Ms and depression. Went to social security after appointment and got in 4 weeks. Worth the wait means that can u live on it?. If you are in a good field making a wage that you are good with I would get a less stressful job, hop on FMLA so you can take off with no repercussions andv keep check that you can live better on. not working is depressing...Not being able to get the things you need is too

If u take Reginald's advice (being that u need to go the a hearing) u can contact OASIS and they will assist u with funds that u don't have to pay back even if u dont win. At least that's what they have promoted. Blessings! : )

Just about any and every job comes with a bit if strain. Being that your health is quite delicate at the moment u should go on disability just for a while till your heart is a bit stronger! However if u decide that u would rather work, try doordash. Com to deliver groceries if u have a car. Also rover.com to walk dogs. Those two jobs should come with less strain.

Ms. Brantley, Sorry for your predicament and let me try and help here. First being disabled you need to apply for food stamps. That's a quick easy fix to ensure that you eat as directed by your doctor. Next you'll need a lawyer to help you thru the complex SSI/SSD paperwork and hearings. That's the hard part. Now I'm just a little bit rusty here cause things have changed so much. I do believe that your monetary value for payment is based on you having 40 qtrs. of work credits and based on the last 5 yrs. of your employment. Don't care what your wages were at $7 an hr. or $70 per hr. Now last the Medicaid card I think is a separate set of paperwork and you can do it at the local Social Services location at anytime you get your disposition from you doctor. That's going to include the form for SSI.(Supplemental Security Income), but You'll probably receive it before you get the Social Security Disability Income.. The SSI is ALWAYS a lower payment than the SSDI.... Just stay the course.... stay the course. I hope that my limited facts of a former social worker finds its way to assisting you....

You should apply for SSDI but the need base SSI is a serious process and the monthly income is according to state, I would ask my doctor what type of job I could work. I am sorry to hear you are faced with an issue with your health that so serious, I pray things work out for you soon.

If you can find an easy job to do while you wait, then do it. You will just be paying more in to it and could qualify for more money. I have filed for disability and it has been going on for almost 3 years. My attorney told me to expect that and to work my little job until my hearing.

Its very hard to get SSI. My ex has a pacemaker and a heart defiberator and he was 59 and he was denied. My mom has a pacemaker and she works.maybe try a less stressful job but one you can enjoy. Good luck to you and God bless.
Get a non-strenuous job!!! Disability won't pay the rent or a car!
