1 ton truck & dual tandem trailer
Hello, I am new to this site and would like to get your feedback on my situation. I got my CDL after getting a ticket in my 1 ton SRW truck (11,500GVWR) with a dual tandem trailer (20,000GVWR). I usually haul my own equipment, tractors, mini excavator and small forklift to my various properties for personal use. I was told if I haul anything to use in my sons business for "commercial gain", I would need to apply for a DOT number. This could be building materials or any of my own equipment, if it is used on a jobsite. His jobsites are all in a 75 - 100 mile radius of Montgomery County Texas. My question: Is this correct? The other concern I have, and would like to get some feedback on is; the new 1 ton DRW pickups are rated at 14,500 GVWR so any little contractor pulling a tandem axle trailer with 7000# axles would be over the 26,001 GVWR limit. Most of the independent contractors I know locally probably doesn't know this and do not have a CDL. Have any of you heard of DPS targeting these guys for tickets or do you think they just "Look The Other Way" Jay Adams
