work denied because of an 8 year old level 6 felony?

I have a level 6 but it was over 8 years ago I applied for a position. They used this background company that came up with that felony from 8 years ago I was denied the job with a nonviolent level 6 felony from over 8 years ago the position of a remote lead generator position. I applied for another job that used the same background check company they came up with nothing how can that be and should I apply back to the same company that I really wanted to work for?

@Les Radford Sorry to hear this unfortunate news. Did anywhere in the application or application process say you could not have a misdemeanor or felony conviction? Some companies have their employees handle sensitive data so that could be a reason why you were denied the position. But I recommend contacting the 3rd party that ran your background to see why that happened. But I would apply and give it a shot to see what happens, but keep applying at other companies so you can get back to work.

Until it is done, it will remain undone...

@Les Radford, I too hate to hear this. I think it's that companies run different types of background checks, depending on what the position entails. Some just run credit checks, others criminal background checks. I wouldn't let it get you down because you don't want to work for someone like that anyway....

Fleet Maintenance Manager at Fed Ex Freight

I too served time. What I do is interview all I can. At the end before their @#$%&^* background is run I ask for a moment to say something. Usually it goes like " In full disclosure as a young man I was a knot head. I GOT INTO TROUBLE AND SERVED SOME TIME" I have NEVER had anyone ask "What did you do"? I have held management positions at Pella, Ryder and Fed Ex. The best route is honesty. Pretty tough to fault a man that is forthright in his past. If you do not tell the company at the interview they will find out anyway. Be humble and honest EVERYONE makes mistakes some just don't get caught. Don't make the mistake of hiding from your past. Avoid profanity. Firm hand shake short direct answers l, listen intently, SMILE dress appropriately, be clean and fresh! Put yourself in the interviewers' shoes would you hire you? Good luck!.

@Les Radford, you need to contact the 3rd party background check agency and you may request a review, giving them the same information you provided here. IN has no Ban the Box law yet. The other option would be expungement or a request to set aside particular convictions. The Resource Center here:resources can provide guidance on the steps you would need to take. I encourage you to read through comments on other member posts here for tons of information and links that might prove helpful. Best of luck.

It really saddens me to see so many people struggle to get work, because of a background check. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO SECOND CHANCES!!!!!

@Les Radford I am sorry this is happening to you. It seems quite unfair to not allow people to move on. I wish you best of luck.

You should be able to appeal the decision and challenge the felony conviction I've done that before for a job and an apartment and one both of them now mine doesn't even show up on my criminal history at court barely almost like it was expunged when I won the appeal that would be my advice good luck
