Personal Care Professional
Hello everyone, My name is Erica. I'm currently a Live-in personal care aide in New Haven, CT. I am looking to become an independent contractor and obtain clients of my own. I'm certified in Mental Health Studies, Patient and Nursing Care, Elderly Care and Caring for the Disabled, Dementia Care, Diabetes, Health and Safety for Caregiving, and Human Nutrition. I've worked in a Mental Institution and various groups in Pennsylvania and Connecticut. But I absolutely love working with people one on one as a live-in and would love to work for myself. Any ideas as to the first step I should be taking that would help me reach my goal?

Hi Erica: That's so awesome you're looking to start your own business! I did a little digging around and found this great article that you should check out: http://www.carepathways.com/articles/starting-a-home-care-agency-business.cfm Word-of-mouth might also be a great way to start building up a clientele base. Talk to past patients, neighbors, and other people within your community. Let them know you're starting your own live-in personal care business, and provide them with contact information. It might be slow at first, but once you build up that steady stream of clients, you'll be golden!

Thank you Valerie McDonald
