Check out state, county and local government job websites. Also may want total your college's career services office to see what help they give to alumni. Also check out local job listings. Hope this helps.

Network with as many recruiters as you can and get registered with any temp agency you can.

Good luck with that one Katherine! Was just discussing the field with another jobcaser. For some reason it has been a difficult road for the both of us. I mean there are plenty of accounting and related jobs, but the competition is fierce. I have first hand experience. I think somebody said there was going to be a shortage of accounts, so that is what everyone went to school for. :) Don't get me wrong, there are jobs out there, but you need to exercise ingenuity to get recognized. The thing you have in your favor is you are a recent graduate and the company will be thinking of money obviously, don't sell yourself short though. A good example of why I am saying this, a good bookkeeper commands $20 - 28 per hour, this is in my area, because of your recent graduation, they are more likely to start you at the $20 mark. There is also the very true reality of being your own boss. That's how I have been surviving since on job search. I pulled a couple of individual's and business's who needed a service, and undercut their best offer. I'm taking a beating hourly wise, but the bills are getting paid, not necessarily on time, but never the less paid! Plus this is the time of year for an accountant to be unemployed, "Tax Time". There are many options available to you! As for job search, try temp agencies, which is what I have resorted to, not a big fan of, but it is a way to get your foot in the door. Other than that patience, determination and keeping that smile and good attitude, it is a process! Good luck!

Katherine Cotterman: If you have the resources, go & get a BS in Accounting. Depending on you grades coming out, you can get a job with an accounting firm that will pay more than working as a trainee for a local company or what you get through applying by mail or online.

Try a local accounting firm to try an get on, but after June 1. Any accounting firm is probably taking the next month to month and a half off, due to end of tax season. You may find an accounting employee on the slopes or at the local fish hot spot. But not in their office(s).
