Job Seekers, Take Heed!

We must remember that interviewing is 1) a burden on most interviewers 2) a 2-way process.

  1. Many interviewers have no idea how to interview. That means they hate doing it. Or it takes time away from their work. They have no one else to do the interviewing, or were given the task by higher-ups. The company needs to fill the position 9-1-1. But a bad hire causes problems! Many interviewers, like many people, are straight-up rude, at home, at work, at your local mall. Add ill manners to hating interviewing, and we, the blameless job seekers, are severe collateral damage. If the interviewer is deranged, he or she may think we are shiftless losers who really prefer staying home and doing nothing.
  2. The interviewer, whether by choice or by order, is representing the company, especially its ambience and culture. We know the job specs better than they do. If blessed, they may have our names and resumes correctly matched. We have one interview that day, maybe two. They may have to interview multiple candidates. Look at how they treat you the same way they look at your job specs. Whenever an interviewer is abusive, or in any way wildly inappropriate, role model adult behavior and terminate the interview immediately. Peace, Abbey G
