Overcoming a record

It is challenging securing a job with a criminal record, but not impossible!

Here are some ways to maximize your chances:

1- Be truthful When you apply do NOT attempt to lie or hide your past. Chances are the employer will request that you have a background check and it will likely be revealed so honesty is the best policy.

2- Move yourself forward Tell the employer the ways you are moving in a positive direction. Discuss your rehabilitation efforts!

3- Remember it also benefits them Remind employers that if they hire you they can take advantage of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) and can claim about $9,600 per employee in tax credits per year under the WOTC program! It's a win for them and a win for you to land a job.

4-Think references Make sure to provide excellent personal or professional references from those without a record. Ask individuals who can attest to your work skills and the value you bring to an employer.

It's very discouraging because there's people that want to move forward but it's difficult to do that with background checks. Reliving the past.

Looooove this post! I agree, it is very important to be honest when it comes to you background, most jobs want you to be honest ... Just because you have a couple charges on your background does not mean you cant do the job. So just be HONEST and things will eventually work out! GOOD LUCK :)

It's super hard when a Misdemeanor stays with you for 7 years after you've already done everything according to the courts in order to have served your time. It's a second sentence that no one talks about. Let alone if they have a felony.

Things need to change about the way America does it's hiring, along with the invasive drug tests.

It's hard but those who have made mistakes in the past should be able to move forward. No judgment here.
