Should I negotiate?

So I got two job offers. Company One is only 12/hrs a week but pays a high hourly wage for me to pay some bills and have time to work on my own business. It is a contractor position which I should be able to get more hours as the business grows I can set my own schedule. There are no benefits.

Company Two is full-time 40hrs BUT it is 1.5hr commute each way every day. The hours are 8-5pm. I will be too tired to work on my own business BUT it will be a steady check and I can knock out my credit bills pretty quickly. Should I negotiate with Company Two to adjust my hours or negotiate a higher salary? Or should I take a chance with Company One and hope the business will grow as they project? I don't want to say the wrong thing to either company and loose both!

I would make a list of pros and cons for both jobs, if working on your own business is important to you, it's a easy decision, but still make a list so you are certain of your future

I know that consistency would be the best choice but what about investing into your dreams? Option 1 will give you the ability to make money as well as do what you want to do. Don't settle for something that will make you temporarily happy. Do something that will motivate you to do what you want in life. Good luck and congratulations! God bless!

If it were me, I would be heavily weighing the long commute .... especially in winter months. That is a big deal to consider how long you would be able to keep that one, even though the hours are more steady

For me the length of the commute every day would be something I would have to consider heavily

anyway you could work the steady job until you get the bills paid and then still be able to take advantage of the apparent golden opportunity that is knocking at the door?

What do you need most? Benefits, time or pay? Answer that question and it may be easier to decide.

I would tell company #1, I am really interested, but I have another offer, and it all comes down to I need more hours. I would tell company #2 that I am really interested, but three hours a day is too expensive, and I really need more money to help with the commute expense. Now for the choice, I am old school, so I have always leaned more to the sure bet. That being said, it depends on your age, family status, and your priorities for happiness. Either way this is not prison, you negotiate with both, make a decision, and if you are wrong, you make an employment change. Weigh your options, but don't under value the cost of the benefits, as that is also part of this decision. Enjoy yourself, and have fun with this. Good Luck...

carefully ask yourself.... Do I really want to commit to a 3 hour drive everyday?...its going to catch up with you sooner than later and either you move closer..certainly an option...or stay with option A

If number 2 has benefits - I'd go with number 2, pay off ur bills, get health insurance- work on ur business on weekends. Ps lower hourly rate with benefits "trumps" (pun intended) higher hourly rate without benefits - imo. Cost of commuting might partially offset lack of benefits (Health care that you would have to purchase urself) - on the other hand contract work won't have SS, unemployment , company investment plan type "benefits" etc etc.
