In this situation, I determined what/who they were angry with, and did what I was able to do to remedy the situation. As long as that was possible, I then made sure that all parties concerned were clear on what the problem was, and what was done to rectify said situation. If I had either been, or contributed to the problem, I made sure to own my part in it, while soft-peddling my part in the solution.
