Possible Scam
Someone posing as a company called Advanced BioDesign has been recruiting and "interviewing" me via google hangouts. We have not spoken on the phone or via video. Only text back and forth. The people they are pretending to be are real, but I assume that the actual people do not know that their names are being used for this scam. They "selected" me for a job and "offered" it to me, although they did not leave any room for me to accept or decline. They say they will send me start up money to purchase the software I will need to work remotely. A friend has informed me that this is a new scam where they send you a fake check that once cashed, messes your whole life up. I don't know what to make of any of it, or how to verify any of it. If it truly is a scam, I'd like to report them. If not, how can I tell? I desperately need a job and this could be a good fit if it is real. The main thing that made me super suspicious was a personal email from the CEO (or someone posing under his name) about reconnecting with the hiring manager under a slightly different email. I have never received an email of any sort from any CEO, usually they have an assistant or administrator who does that sort of thing. Has anyone encountered this type of scam or anything similar? What should I do?

Glad you caught it. Criminals!!

This is definitely a scam. What happens is they give you a "check" to deposit, then have you "buy equipment" through a vendor on Cash App or they'll have you withdraw money and send it. Because of how the law works, banks HAVE to make the funds available from a check immediately. But it takes the banks a few days to verify the check. So what happens is you send them a bunch of money, then I'm sure they tell you that it'll take a few business days to show up, then a few days later your bank finds out the check is fake, they remove the funds, and now you are out that money you sent. I talked to the same person for Advanced Biodesign that Kat Roach-Swann did on Google Hangouts. I went through the process of doing an interview, signing a job offer, and receiving a "check" to buy my office suite. I started to get a weird feeling when they wanted me to buy my equipment through a Cash App. I called my bank and told them I had doubts about the check so they put a hold on it. I then told Espinoza that I wouldn't continue the process until I had verification from my bank. He got very upset about it and I even got a call from the "CEO". He was cordial at first before I started poking holes in his story. Then he got angry. I hung up on him and haven't had contact since. I just got a call today from my bank that the check was fake. So now I'm going to make a report to the FTC, to Indeed (that's where he found my resume), and make some other posts so people are aware. I didn't even now this was a type of scam people pulled. And I'm so embarrassed that I let my desperation for a job take me as far into this as it did. But luckily, it looks like I'm only out $5.00 for the processing fee my bank charged me for depositing a fake check. So lesson learned I guess.

This is his response to me after I called him out. Ariel please be safe

This is the man and his picture.

I am currently being a victim of this scam. Thank you so much for posting this. Saved me

Run far, run fast. Have they mentioned that you need to lease office space for them locally and buy equipment and supplies with the funds they send to you? This is a known sex trafficking scam, meeting and abducting when you meet them face to face. Good luck in your job search but please beware!! The profile has an address in France.
