Target on my back?
I work at Target with a bunch of unusual people. One coworker drives me insane though. He’s so bossy and mean, to the point where he’s definitely made other people cry. He usually goes through phases where he picks on someone. I guess now it’s my turn, because he’s been coming at me with such a bad attitude. How do I stand up to this bully without losing my job?

Document! Document! Document! Write down specific times, days and the comments being made. If they are not helpful or intended to improve job performance, then they are creating a hostile work environment. There are laws against that sort of thing. You have the right to say to this co-worker, " You are not my boss. If you keep harassing me, then I will report you to upper management." If there is anything a company fears it is being sued for a hostile work environment. My guess is if you stand up to this co-worker and show him you will not be intimidated by him, then he will back off. Good Luck.

Well, since he is a coworker and not a supervisor, you should not be fired unless you stand up for yourself in a manner that is unprofessional. You haven't been specific on exactly what he is doing, so we can't give you a more tailored response. I have seen many workplace bullies, and I can tell you ignoring him and doing nothing will only encourage him and make him worse. Some ideas I have are: 1. Roll your eyes and walk away when he starts. 2. When he says something mean, say tersely "I expect to be treated with respect. Is that clear to you, or do we need to take it to the supervisor?" 3. Get together with other people he has bullied and complain to management as a group.

You and everyone he has picked on need to go to your manager as a group and complain about him.

I have the answer for you. This has happened to me many times. I have learned that those kind of people are the ones with the problem. They push buttons and expect a response. The worst thing you can do is give them a response. Stay calm, don't say anything and look at them like your thinking they are crazy, which they are and just walk off while they are talking. After they push every button they can and get no response they will eventually not get what they are wanting and that is to make you miserable because they are. Document each thing he does word for word, if there are any witnesses and the time and date. After collecting documentation contact the compliance manager of the company and tell him you have documentation that this person is causing a hostile work environment. If the compliance manger doesn't take action call an attorney and see if you can file a suit for a hostile work environment. Go to an attorney that just works with employment law. Good luck. Scott P

If you do anything with evidence you will get fired. Talk to a lawyer who specializes in this type of harassment.when they feel you should peruse it further. Drop the hammer sue for big money.they will settle as most big companies don't want bad publicity.then drive in your new car by unemployment and say hi to the bully because that's where he will be.

Douglas Mason have you gone to management about this coworker if not maybe you should and if management doesn't do something about it go higher to their supervisors good luck

Tell your manager what's going on put it on paper and put it on record and if they do nothing then you go up the chain of command and if your GM doesn't do anything you go higher until something gets done

Douglas , Douglas, Douglas next time the person attempts that nonsense tell that person congrats did not know you were my new supervisor. .. then walk away

You should polity tell him how he's making you feel and if that doesn't work you two should sit down and ask him if he's OK because he might have been having a bad day and needs someone to talk to
