Never wear jeans to a job fair
When [getting ready for a job fair] (https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/9585469d-075b-510f-a14b-b957c403aa11) it’s important to ensure you have 40-50 copies of your resume, that you have prepared yourself with what to say, but most importantly have picked out your clothing.
It is NEVER a good idea to wear jeans to a job fair.
Here’s why….
-Many organizations who host the job fairs have a dress code and jeans are a big no, no. This includes the [Chicago job fair] (https://www.jobcase.com/chicago-job-fair) on June 20th.
-You will be meeting with multiple companies throughout the day and want to make a great first impression with each of them. Dress to impress!
-You want to treat this as if you were interviewing for your dream job. Would you show up in jeans?
-Wearing jeans says to potential employers that you are dressed casually and at a glance, they may decide that you are not serious and don’t want the job versus the next candidate who is dressed professionally.
What to wear instead of jeans:
Dress slacks without any stains, holes, rips, and without wrinkles. You can pick up a pair of dress slacks at Walmart, Kohls, the Salvation Army, Goodwill, Target, or at any clothing store near you.
When in doubt ask a sales associate for assistance and tell them that you are attending a job fair and need professional clothing which includes dress slacks.

Wishing you the best of luck in all future job fairs, and we hope to see you in Chicago this Wednesday!

Put your best foot forward!!

I think you NEED to always dress professionally. Case closed. Job fair...interview....doesn't matter. Dress nice.

I agree! Many companies - regardless of the industry or position - want to know that the people they're employing will represent the business as professionally as possible, and one of the best ways to do that is by dressing well! It's great if your employer has a relaxed dress code within the workplace, but it's always a good idea to start with your best foot forward :)

Bull shit!!! I wear jeans to every job fair I attend!! Trucking company's and OIL field companies don't want you getting all dressed up!!!

For gentlemen may I suggest; A navy blue suit with pressed and creased slacks of proper length, white short sleeved undershirt, worned under ironed, crisp white long sleeved, bottoned collared dress shirt, a red stripped tie, not dated (proper length of tie worn with point to level of belt and if slightly lower, but not higher showing belly area), finished with polished, well maintained pair of black dress shoes and dark blue socks. Amazing how the wearer will feel an increased level of confidence with a commanding presence... With a great resume in hand, friendly smile and a firm, but not overpowering handshake can.... please let us know how this plays out, as we are tuned in with anxious anticipation...to the next exciting episode!

I have a good pair of pants that I save for interviews. Eberyone needs at least 1.

You think people would know better.

I know with interviews it can kind of depend, but at a job fair, you are all over the place. You could meet 100's of people and you need to look great for them all!
Ashley, great job in "setting the record straight" and great information that's relevant.
