Unemployed

During my tenure as a DCPS teacher I worked with some wonderful administrators. I also worked for administrators who were so stressed about statistics that had no caring attitude toward teachers or students. When I taught I experienced some personal traumas and my administrator's, at the time, showed no concern. I enjoyed all of the colleagues I worked with. I also remember wonderful and challenging students. Eventually, I was terminated ,with a group of other teachers, due to the budget. Our termination was planned long before it actually happened. Which made the entire process underhanded because we were told we would have a chance to re-apply and we were offered interviews only to be transferred to schools at the last minute. That type of last minute transfer is awkward and unsettling for a teacher in terms of packing up materials and dealing with an administrator who didn't request or plan for your arrival. At my new school I was given no classroom, students, or roster. I was assigned to another teacher's classroom as though I was a substitute. The day of our termination many of the teachers were escorted out by police officers and could only take what they could carry. This was horrible and unprofessional treatment. Then, after our termination the DC Chancellor mysteriously found a budget of 38 or 39 million dollars with which to hire students in the Teach for America Program. These students were paid a much lower salary. I still suffer from what happened. I never got a full time job. My savings, retirement, and investments were exhausted and I was forced to solicit on the street for money for two years. I am still looking for work. I have lost just about everything.
