Too much paperwork

My job requires working out of the office with very little time at my desk. I find it difficult to do my required paperwork and therefore end up working 2 extra hours unpaid. My boss refuses to pay for my overtime. I don't agree that I should be working if I'm not being paid! But my boss wont budge....

It's supposed to be illegal to work off the clock. I think it's an insurance issue/ workmans comp or something like that. Atleast that's what i was told when i was playing catch up one day off the clock.

Is that 2 hrs extra per DAY, or per WEEK? Whatever. If it takes x hours per day to do your paperwork just spend (8-x) hours out of office. Then return to office. Problem solved!

You'll have to rework your concept that it has to be done as overtime. As someone said below, schedule some hours in the office. It would depend on the nature of the work and deadlines, but having a half day, on the last day of your work week, would allow for you to start fresh the next week. Another alternative is to have a laptop with you where you do the paperwork in "real time," as you meet with people and make decisions. Then, the paperwork won't pile up and create a problem with any delays.

Been there, done that. Time management, prioritization of tasks, and pre-planning of continued and upcoming tasks before and after work will help you deal with each day. A Franklin planner can strategically keep you from extending your work day (unpaid). Work smartly, not chaotically. If you whine too much, you may find yourself out of a job or a potential promotion. Now days employers want more proactive workers, stepping up doing more than what is expected. It's reality. Good jobs are hard to find. If he asks for 100% on the job, give him/her 101%. It's better than having no job, not being able to financially support you and the family. Stay positive, don't throw in the towel.
