Asked to leave before my notice is up/ hostile work environment
Dear job chasers Advice? I have several weeks ago filed a hostile / harassment grievance against my direct supervisor, the matter was taken seriously by HR , & they have been investigating. Since then , I feel I have beenr retaileated against. Eg. Small infarction such as a paper being left unattended. Ect. Though , I hadn't been there in12 hours. & anyone could have placed the paper in a no secure area. However, getting to my point , I have found another posistion I feel good about. Today I was asked to come in HR with my supervisor & told I could go ahead & leave now, I didn't need to work my two weeks notice. I will get paid through all my days I was scheduled to work, when I asked " why" the only response was " it's tense ". I did get my supervisor to admit in the presence of HR , it had nothing to do with my work ethic or performance. I'm still shocked! It was NOT a termination. & I have that in writing. I just feel it's punitive. & told them so. I have been an excellent employee who has been at this company for over 8 years with excellent work reviews. Is this a common practice ? I felt like I was being fired Thanks for any comments or advise.

looks to me like your ex-employer is giving all or part of 2 weeks extra pay. What's the problem with that? Don't start your new job embroiled in real or imagined slights from a past job. That's called holding a grudge and grudges are extremely cumbersome.

Yes this is common for whistleblowers. I am experiencing something like this now where the General maintenance ignore a issue where a Forman made a racial slur n***** rigging. I reported it to another Forman and that Forman reported it. However, I reported it to the owner of the company and she prob into the situation and has not got back to me as of yet. This is so common on jobs. However, you got to be sharp and awear of your surroundings. You should of got it in writing and when you have private meetings with your superior or/and HR like this in the future. Always put your phone on record and record the conversation. Then you can always go to the EEOC and file a complaint. You must keep file or data of every harassment incidents that goes on in the workplace it is going on all the time.

Hey Girl dont worry things happen for a reason and for the best because im sure a better opportunity is going to come ur way sooner than u might think so for now enjoy ur break and relax.....

Lori, it's not unusual for company's to release employees prior to the completion of the two weeks. In your particular circumstances, HR was right in providing you an early out with pay. You weren't fired, it was simply HR protecting both you and the company. Had you been fired, there wouldn't of been any pay. Best of luck with you new job.

you were in a sense being fired, i would feel the same way

Is there anyway you can start your new job early and make double salary? Just curious.

Hi Lori, with having worked 8 years with your company, that's a totally bummer! That's awesome you were with a company that long, when you find work again I know it'll be forever! Keep smiling.....

Enjoy the time off with pay! Don't worry yourself over it!
