I hate my job?

Hi, I don't want to look as if I'm whining, but just a few months ago I got my first job at a local Wendy's. (I'm still a senior in high school, 17) and at first I loved it, and the managers, and y'know everything. Getting your first job type of hype. But recently I've started noticing the true colors of the work place there. None of the other crew members ever want to actually do their work, so I always have guests yelling at me, and when I ask them to do their work (Mainly sandwich makers) they yell at me. And when I get fed up and make the sandwich's myself, they yell at me again. I can't be expected to work the window, taking orders, making drinks, getting fries, make sandwich's, and coordinate a rush all on my own. And then get yelled at when I'm forced to do that to get orders out.The place never gets cleaned during work hours it;s gross, it's almost an everyday thing to feel sick at work now, and the hours they make me work on school nights (usually 5-11:30) is starting to affect my grades since I usually never get a break to do my homework and by the time I get home I'm too tired to do my work (I usually still try and I'm usually up till at least 12:30 - 1 because I'm in honors classes) I want to quit, but I need the money and getting another job in my city is really hard, I live in Indiana. It took me months and 5 interviews to get my job, and I feel guilty about quitting esp. since I know the gm really needs me. But I don't think I can take working there for much longer. What should I do?

Your grades come first. This sounds like a situation where you should have a talk with both your parents and the manager. It is very likely illegal for them to make you work so late. You should be able to leave at 9:30 or 10 and the rest of the staff can simply take over from there. You can't make them do their tasks, you can only do your tasks. It sounds almost as if they might be resisting you, perhaps resenting your efforts, who knows. Looking for another job sounds like a good idea, or cutting way way back on hours. Get some advice from your parents and share some information with the shift supervisor and manager. Good luck.

Here's some friendly advice. Employers like to hire someone who is already working because of a lot of reasons so with that in mind look for another job before you quit. It's easier now that you're for one working and now you have experience. Do not complain about your current job during your interview. Sad to say, You'll learn, you'll find the same situation no matter where you work. That's just how people are.

I would talk to the GM and also let him or her know about the labor law regarding student employees. But it is not what you say but how you deliver your needs and wants. Let GM know how important and serious you are about your academics and that you need hours or a schedule that does not conflict with study time . Education first then job not job first.

J-O-B : just above broke always available no education needed . Employment - pays mortgage and car and utilities not always available education needed.

Elementary school prepares you for high school

High school prepares you for college College gives you tools for Employment to survive in corporate world.

Do not skip steps or deviate then mistake is made and struggle begins.

Two weeks in I would not call the GM, try your shift supervisor or equivalent. Complaining to the GM is not going to look good to anyone. Currently, in retail myself, and have seen the DMs here say mind your business and focus on your job. Use the chain of command to talk about scheduling and maybe say I like my job ..... why does everyone complain all the time? Focus on the positive. If that does not work start looking for another job. UPS, Federal Express are hiring as well as Macys, Big 5, etc for XMas.

It's a shameful situation but it is accurate. I'm 58 and a former Marine who has served the military as well as being a manager in the food industry. I tell you this to preface the following: get your formal education, a career and move on with your life. Many people just can't see the big picture & just do their job. They're worthless. Even the Marine Corps has some worthless personnel. They are derided and looked down upon. We call them non-hackers because they Cannot Cut It. In the IMF they all cut loose and the situation is allowed to handle them. Don't worry you're Smart! Get a good education & a good job! Wendys is just 1 stepping stone Nothing More. God Bless You!

I was an assistant manager at Wendy's and I can tell you this, an employee like you is to be treasured. I would speak to the GM and the district manager and inform them about your concerns. You also have the hotline in which you can report problems on and trust me they will be fully investigated. In the meantime concentrate on you and which is best for you. Education and your future should come fist, you can always find another job but without a strong foundation you are limited in your overall growth. best of luck to you.

Speak to your management and present your case before him or her. Ask for a Supervisory position to give you the leverage to enforce the work duties and to create order in that place. If that doesn't work, babysitting is a teenage job that can help you with your studies if you babysit small children who respect and abide by bedtime rules. Whatever you do, I admire your work ethic and sensibility at such a young age. Keep studying!

You should start applying for new jobs. Once you get a new gig, quit Wendys. In the meantime, you need to learn how to loosen up. Don't take things too seriously. Be just as lazy as your Co workers. Afterall, they're not going home stressed out.

Cheyenne, Unfortunately most people go through this with the first couple of jobs we have. Being that this is a Fast-food job you don't need to worry about leaving for something else. Try an actual Restaurant or a better chain like Applebee's or that type. You shouldn't jump from job to job but the Fast-food business is a tough one.... Good luck. Ciao-

Cut back on your hours. The job is taking away from school and the environment is toxic. You may not understand toxic environment yet. Trust me. I hope you see why scroll and a career you love is soooo important. Also try looking for another job. You should not be handling money and preparing good. Violation.
