Lead Baker at Lovarc

Just Hired as New Baker/Prep cook at new restraunt.

After 3 years of Unemployement(temporary disability)and a lot of time searching and applying for a job.Someone is finally willing to give this 53 year old a chance at a job again. After searching all this time I wasnt in a good place in my head as I got a lot of interviews and a lot of no callbacks. What I finally did to get an interview at this job was write and send a resume and a copy of my Foodservice Certicate to hiring Manager, this got my foot in the door and an interview in which I was hired immediately. I am more of a Baker than a Prep Person but I have done a lot of that in the past.Since this is a new openning Restraunt They have over hired so I am nervous about my Job performance since I havent worked in over 3 years.Last Job was Lead Baker on an Air Force Base, which was a very demanding and strict enviroment.I need any pointers anyone who has openned a new Restraunt can give to give a good impression and survive through the first shift.I was nervous starting my last job but ended up from lowly asst Baker to Lead Baker in 2 years and that lasted for 7 years until government changed contracts and was Layed off.I am not going to bring any of the past job difficulties to new job.Just want to be seen as a good worker..

Store Assistant at Sweets And Things

Well buddy that must be very nice for at 53 but how many years were you out of a job before you got your new job. Let me tell you something I am 67 yrs old and have been trying to find work since 2014 and they tell me that I have to have at lest 6months of experience when I have worked for over 15 yrs for various manufacturing companies and warehouses. So when you are enjoying you new job just think about those guys that have worked for most of their lives giving to those companies everything they have and then when these guys want to go back to work and are told that they must have 6 months of experience before their hired. JUST THINK ABOUT THAT.

2, well no, 3 things to keep in mind William. First, Congrats on the new job. Well deserved and earned after 3 years managing life challenges that kept you out of the workforce. Second, have confidence in your work ethic. Remember, good work habits are never forgotten; it's like riding a bike! Third, keep an open mind. 3 years out of the restaurant industry is long enough to expect changes in food management and preparation. Don't hold on to old methods any allow room for training and growth. Good Luck with your new career opportunity and keep in touch with the community.
