Time gap hindering my getting a new job
My last job was in 2009 & was moving to NYC. My mother was diagnosed with early to mid-stage Alzheimer's and to prevent my brothers from putting her in a home, I took care of her needs (financially, legally and medically). She passed away in August of 2015 & I finally finished up all her paperwork in November. That was a FT job, in itself! I've got 25 years of Administrative positions including EA to the CFO to a Fortune 500 Corporation. I'm now being overlooked as the gap is over 6 months; although I am still proficient and up-to-date software. In my experience I've worked with women whom have been out of the workforce for many years under similar circumstances or raising a family. I don't understand how people can see this as a negative quality. I apply for jobs regularly & have had interviews but this always seems to feel like a red flag! I'm thinking if I go into a staffing office, where once was an opportunity get my foot in the door of a Company, that the staffing company will not consider me. What am I to do?
Put that information in your resume. Document your strengths as a caregiver, your experience financially, legal, and dealing with the government on those and medical. You did a service, a blessed service. Credit yourself and if it's needed obtain references. (Family, Doctors and/or Lawyers) Good luck to you... I know the feeling however mine was personal.
