Disappointed
Went to school to get a better career opportunity. Did my 160 hours externship ( didn't get not even an hour of practice where I did my externship for what I went to school for). But was told by the recruiter at the school they have job placement and it was not true. I am going on 4 months since I graduated and I am still not working. I have been posting my resume online everywhere but they are asking for 2-3 years experience. How can you get the experience if no one will hire you. I am starting to forget all I learned in class. ☹️ I am so disappointed

Hi Sarita,
The same thing happened to me when I graduated from school with an Associate's in Specialized Technology. I was the only student enrolled in their software program, while literally every other student was in the hardware program and had no issues finding jobs with the help of career placement. Me on the other hand, they couldn't help me. I had to do all the work myself. I went through a temp agency who found me temporary employment, and that helped build the "experience" I needed. I would recommend checking with temp agencies in your chosen field, and since you aren't working-try volunteering for companies/organizations that can help you gain the experience you need. The externship should be enough, but sadly, it isn't to most employers. (I experienced that when I became a Paralegal-no one would hire me without Paralegal experience no matter who I did an externship with). Don't give up. You'll either find that employer who is willing to give you a chance, or you'll be able to gain the experience on your own through volunteering or going through temp agencies, and you'll land the job you want. Keep going!
