What the 3 behaviors I can practice to get from Crew Member to Kitchen Manager?
I recently started a Chipotle Crew member job that I’m really enjoying and excited about. My goal is to get to the next level as a Kitchen Manager soon so I can receive better pay and afford p/t undergraduate studies.

Mike,
Congratulations! When working on my undergrad I went from a dish washer to a line cook in under a year and ended up working in a four star as a sous chef.
1 - First time, every time. That is the first time you do something you attempt to not just get it right but perfect and you treat every time like it is the first.
2 - Take on the every job is my job point of view. If something needs to be done and you have the time and permission to do it then get it done. This will set you apart because others are quick to say what their jobs aren't.
3 - Begin thinking like a Kitchen Manager now. The more you understand what the roles and responsibilities are the easier it will be to transition into it.
All the best and I look forward to your post announcing you are a Kitchen Manager.

Mike, Coming from an executive chefs point of view, I look for self starters, quality of work, and quality leadership skills. As a cook make sure you give a dam about what you do, what you put out, and how much quality you can put out. From your question, it tells me you already have half of what you need to get to wher you want. Good luck and remember as a cook be reliable, be efficient, and be productive. Samy

I would look for another job first of all... after all the crap (literally) that's been in the news about them, there's really no coming back from that. However as far moving up the ladder go's, the best way of doing that in a kitchen is proving that you know what your doing, do more than what's expected of you and ask. Good luck

Congratulations becoming a kitchen manager. Observe the behavior , TTM the crew in what they would be doing for their shift . Always be rush ready, friendly, keep them positive and motivated.

Be flexible, volunteer to cover shifts, and learn all the work stations (cross train). You can get promoted quick at Chipotle.

1.Show up early and stay late every shift. But don't make a big deal of it, let others notice. 2. be likable develop trust among the team. Be careful not to be fake or a brown nose though. 3. Look to take on more responsability every chance you can. If you do more than what you're paid for; eventually you'll be paid more for what you do.

Mike, Congrats on starting the new job with Chipotle! I would observe the behaviors and tasks of the current kitchen manager to understand fully what they are responsible for. I think its also important to establish a good relationship with members on your team and take on any added responsibility in order to stand out to management!
Learn the Chipotle do's and don'ts. Get active with the current KM and learn/offer to do the C7 counts at night for him/her. Or verify the counts in the morning. At Chipotle its really all about taking the initiative and showing the current management staff that you are the new km. work with and through your people, coach them when they don't do to great and acknowledge them when they do great. When I worked for Chipotle, it took me a little over 2 months to get ready for the km spot, then only 2 weeks after that to get the sm position. And then another 2 months for the apprentice position. Great company to work for, even though I am no longer there, I will still promote the brand.
