Can My Former Employer Sabatage Me If Potential Employer Calls For Referance?
Worked at same job for over 10 years. 3rd shift weekebds are hard to cover so I always felt harrased if ever I needed time to call in so often times would go to work despite being sick or going through anything personal like the death of my mother. 1 night my neice was in a roll over accident and her best friend died my neice lost all sensation from her waist to her toes and was going in for emergency back surgery. They refused to let me leave early so as soon as I got out went straight to hospital where my family was at. Long story short...I was afraid to call in..came to wk on 2 hours of sleep and nodded out at wk. Got fired no verbal no written. No final NOTHING. Now cant get a job to save my life. Can old employer sabatoge my potential new ones?

I wonder this too. Fired for "losing" keys while working with full blown pneumonia because of their attendance policy. Can my supervisor give negative info? Or more likely if he tells the truth about what a good worker I am will management punish him? He moved about 500 miles to take his job a few months ago

You can certainly collect unemployment if you feel that the termination was unjustified. In the same token 10yrs on one job speaks for itself. You must have been doing something. right. Most places provides potential employers with your dates of employment and cannot give the reason that you were terminated because of liability issues. I have no doubt that everything is about to turn in your favor. Blessings!!

Thanks for the helpful tips guys. Im not giving up. Im goid at what I do and I will find another job if it kills me lol

I would not put a boss or supervisor's phone on an application for a former employer. Always put the main line for the company or corporate. So if a background check is done they get Human Resources. Human Resources is only "supposed" to give HIRE DATE, TERMINATION DATE, and if you are eligible to rehire. One thing I have done in the past if in doubt is to have a friend call in to verify employment and see what they say. But besides that I would not list anyone at that company as a reference and as Nicolas Marquez earlier suggested I would check the box to not contact your previous employer and if it comes up in the interview just be honest about. We all have that one employer that we don't want people to talk to.

You should never have to feel like a prisoner in your job and they need to be more understanding when certain cituations arise... But in the case of you searching for another job and putting them down as a refrence some applications give you an option if they could contact a previous employer I would just say No and if asked, simply explain why. When I interview someone 80% of the interview for me is all about character. People have potential that has not been discoverd yet. Like I always say IF YOU FIND A JOB YOU LOVE TO DO, YOU WILL NEVER WORK ANOTHER DAY IN YOUR LIFE.

I’m sure some employers say what they want to say regardless of the law. Who will ever know? Some people will be petti regardless.

Family first only have 1 you can get a new job f em

Its a gray area but there are ways and things they can say that will black ball you
