Wanting to relocate

My family and I have made the decision that we would like and want to relocate from Colorado to Houston, TX area. I have applied to over 100 different potential employers that are looking for people in my skill set to be shut down. Are employers scared that I would be asking for relocation assistance? I have disclosed on my resume and cover letter that I am wanting and ready to relocate as. I have considered going down to Houston by myself and look for a job and live out of a hotel while I do, but it is difficult when my income is a majority of the household income. Does anyone have any advise to what I could do to ultimately move in the direction that my family wants to go?

Try this site. They do help. But, Houston is not such a good place to live. https://nwbc.org/bjm Also, if you have kids, the schools are horrible, HORRIBLE. Try to get them in the Magnet program if you do go.

Hit up the local temp agency in the area you are moving too, get signed up with them before you leave, work with them when you get there. Then on your days off from the temp work, look for other full time employment. We have one that services the middle district of Florida called Automation, they find the work and take a small percentage for doing so, it works.

Get 2 debit cards from the same company. Load income on to your card, keep living expenses on card the wife has, the rest pays room and board while you job hunt.

I don't think it's you at all. A lot of the so-called employers don't even look at half the resumes that get tossed on their desk. Someone tosses them on their desk and when they're back is turned they toss them in the trash. And for the recruiters that's a joke. Not all, but most, So many just don't care. It's a high turnover job. For very low pay. Keep doing what you're doing and eventually you will find the right job. Best of luck to you.

Nick, Your family security is number one. I recommend you continue to seek employment in TX but don't leave until a job is secured. Moving is stressful so you may need to be patient. Continue to save until you have enough income to move and live for 3 months without a job.

Advice! I myself have relocated to Houston, Tx in 2013 and I've discovered that it's a wonderful place to live and grow. I love it here and I'm glad I made the decision to come here from Cleveland, Ohio. All my family is in Ohio, but I can't see myself going back. I think you are making a good decision and you'll find something, because Texas is a growing state with a lot to offer. Congratulation on your decision to move!!!

I am wanting to relocate as well. After talking to several temp agencies after applying for jobs, I was told that employers are only looking at serious candidates who are located in the area. So I have to move, take a job anywhere I can get one, and then apply for the work in the field I have employed in.
