Need assistance, while I purse my certification.

From personal experience I've worked full time while finishing school, and it has affected me mentally because I'm used to working 60- 70+ hours weekly. Therefore, I would like to look for a different job, but the downside of this is that the economy seems to be pretty low since the majority of the work I do is for the oil industry. Should I look for a different job and finish my certification , or stay?

William: I agree with Marijoy. Finish school. I have had jobs where I've worked the hours you're working now and it does affect you mentally and physically. Finish your certification and then start looking for something that does not require you to work so many hours weekly. Personal advice: If you have vacation days accumulated, take a few to decompress and recuperate. You need to take a breathe for your own sake.

The oil industry has been showing some signs of recovery but it’s going to be some time before it gets back to what it was like 10 years ago. In the meantime, take advantage of any certification, schooling, or training you can get under your belt now so you can be in a better position to be among the first applicants selected when the industry gets back to full force. Be very careful, however, quitting or leaving a paying job without having a financial back-up plan in case you have to go long term without finding another job. I wish you the Best.

Hi William, Finishing school is the most important, as it will probably effect what kind of job you can move TO. If your current situation is too stressful, then try looking for something else - just make sure to get another job before quitting. (And did I mention stay in school?! Really, this is so important...) Good luck ~ let us know what you decide. Marijoy
