Job Experience

I had the same job for 10 years then got laid off. What’s the best way to present my resume and have it not look so skimpy?

Hi Helen Borgsdorf ,

You must have learned a bunch while there! You also must have gained a bunch of responsibility or spearheaded new approaches to common procedures while there. You definitely want to include any metrics you can - for example in Customer Service, you can talk about how you increased customer satisfaction by such %, or fulfilled requests 25% faster than average.

Additionally, any volunteering you've done in this time or community outreach can be a great thing to include on your resume. Any conference or events you attended that are work related and demonstrate that you earned something that employs find valuable (new software, customer service techniques + best practices, industry standards) can go on your resume.

I can tell you from experience that your resume should never be more than one page anyway (except for some high level technical roles), so as long as you have the essentials on there, you should be fine!

I hope this helps!

Hi Helen! This [info] (https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/46cb1229-eedd-5a42-831d-5d5d3429387c) will help you learn how to present your resume in a manner which hides your gaps if you haven't been back to work in awhile. I also love this [site] (https://www.wozber.com/us/guidebook/tag/resume) for helping to format and answering any resume concerns you have. A sort of self help for resumes! Have a wonderful day and good luck!!
