Anybody else ever get an interview with a company that you know is out of your league?
The job posting was one of the dream jobs that I found and applied online fully knowing I was a long shot for a call back but surprisingly enough they called me for an interview. I went in the interview knowing I was out of my depth but I thought maybe the manager or someone in HR thought I was a diamond in the rough. Most of their employees have backgrounds akin to 'top tier university' with relevant experience, both of which I do not possess so the reason they would call me is a mystery. I received a nicely written rejection notice this morning…. Guess I’ll chalk this one up to experience.

Doreen,
It can be a bit of conundrum, I suppose, when one reaches for a star just out of one's reach. Did this dream require a degree that you either did or did not possess? Did you look them in the eye and tell them with complete confidence that you're the woman for the job? Did you show them that your "intangibles" are far more richer than the fancy font on some fancy degree? Did you disarm with charm?
Try these ideas next interview and don't be surprised when they call you with a job offer. :)

Maybe you need to look at yourself a little differently. You can do anything that you set your mind to. Maybe they see something in you that you don't or maybe they are looking for someone with more street sense than book sense. Buck up. Ask a few friends to tell you what problems they see... stay positive, sit up straight and look them in the eye and do your very best. That's all you can do. Have a good day.

I can't help but wonder if your attitude (i.e., that the opportunity was "out of your league" wasn't visible during the interview. The fact that they selected yoiur resume out of the thousands they (n doubt) received. That, alone, should have told you that you WERE in the league and that the job was yours to lose during the inteview. Your attitude, now, is fine but you need to get it right at the right time - BEFORE you go into the interview. At the interview, they're looking to see how you, as a person, "fit in" with their Team.

That's a great way to look at it Doreen! Each interview is an experience preparing you for the next one. Let us know if you need any help with your job search!
Yes. Many prospective employers simply repost existing job descriptions for position openings. Always put your best resume out there with a cover letter of why they should look at you. What burns me is after the interview you don't get a rejection letter that just leaves you hanging. Most companies will send one, but recruiters most of the time do not follow proper business etiquette.
