Sometimes things work in strange ways. Recently my company offered a buyout for similar positions to mine. During that process I decided to go ahead and apply for a couple positions in the event that they offered the buyout to my group. Unfortunately they did not offer the severance package to myself and my co-workers. In the end I have received an offer after a couple of interviews that is actually compensated better than I am now. Not only are the wages better, the medical plan appears to be better and at less cost per pay period. Vacation is almost exactly what I have now after 18 years with the company I work for now.

In conclusion I recommend that if you aren't satisfied with the job you are working now do not be afraid of applying. Stay positive in the interviews. There will always be opportunities for skilled individuals and you will never know what is available without trying. Also do not just look under the title that you are currently working, look at other titles and see what skills are necessary to complete the work.
