"Divorced & Back to Work - Need Help"
For the past 8 years I’ve been home raising children while my husband worked to provide for our family. Unfortunately this year we got divorced and as a result find myself under a tremendous amount of pressure to find a job soon. I’ve been aimlessly applying for every and any available job opening I could qualify for as a low-skilled worker but so far not one employer has given me the time of day. The biggest problem is that my resume has long gap of time off since I’ve stopped working to be a FT mom. How can use a cover letter to describe my situation in a professional manner and make myself more appealing to hiring managers?

Hi Zunilda, If you feel that you haven’t successfully explained the gap on your resume and application then by all means explain it in a cover letter. Make a list of your day to day activities as a homemaker and identify skills you can transition into the workplace. Try to be briefly, direct, and unapologetic on the cover letter. Give this a try and message me if you need additional help or more specific examples.
Hi Zunilda,
This related more to to the divorce, but have you gotten alimony from your ex-husband?
“Alimony” means payments for the support and maintenance of a spouse, either by lump sum or on a continuing basis. Alimony is paid by the “supporting spouse” to the “dependent spouse”.
You can get child-support AND Alimony. Child support is money from your former spouse to help you raise your child.
Alimony is money you get from your former spouse to help support YOU, because you took time to provide for your family, and as a result lost your opportunities to get a better job while you were supporting your family.
In general, about the only time a judge will award alimony in most states is where one spouse has been economically dependent on the other spouse for most of a lengthy marriage.
I think you could think about Alimony as well
