Job Tips

Does anyone have some good tips on how to search for positions not online? I want to try in person along with my continued online search. Thanks :-)

Hi Beth, Now a days on line is one of the most effective ways to look for jobs. Anything that is available is posted on line on several web sights that is why you may see the same job posted on several of the big web sights at the same time. When employers are looking for employees they get so many applicants that they do not have the time to sift through all of them so they almost always use word of mouth, personal references, and agencies to narrow down the search. The best advise I can give is to network through contacts and people you know face to face and contact a local staffing agency that will help place you is a position that will best suit your qualifications. If you are looking for a professional potion I would also suggest Linkin. I have been a hiring manager for most of my career and this is how I have found many of my employees that have built stable and solid careers.

Hi Beth,

Excellent question! You've taken the best first step by creating a full profile on Jobcase - it shows you've thought about your skills and experience and how you might fit into another company. :) Now, given your experience and skills, think about the role you want to find. Use on-line resources (like Jobcase, of course) to educate yourself about companies and industries you'd like to explore. (The Company pages on JC can help with this!)

Once you've narrowed down where you'd like to work, connect with people who are currently there. Networking is a TERRIFIC way to find a good job. Plus, you can do this online or in person. And remember: the more you know about the company & culture, the better your response rate will be! Once you make a personal connection, you can ask for an informational interview or ask directly about open positions (and your potential fit within the company).

Good luck - let us know how it goes!! Marijoy

Thanks Kelly for the great advice. I will be on the lookout for local job fairs and start networking there. :-)

Sourcing Recruiter at Jobcase

Hi Beth, Good question! I would suggest going to any local career fairs that may be in your area. Those are a good opportunity for you to network and learn about many different companies of potential interest at once. Also a chance to get your resume in the hands of potential employers!
