Getting frustrated
I have been an operational manager for 10 years and am looking for anything....I've gone to about 30 job fairs and applied to about 1,000 jobs and still have yet to be aligned with employment. I've been told that only 10% of available employment are advertised. Is there anything more I should be doing? I just recently got out of the military and have to find something. Any help would be very much so appreciated

MR Lawrence, have you aligned yourself with a good "head-hunter"? They have in's and out's that we as prospective employees do not have. Their relationships with companies get you looked at when simple job fairs, online jobs sites, and simply dropping you resume do not work. Just an idea...

I'd keep my job as an Operational Manager, since I am currently seeking and can't find anything either. I too was military with vast experience in many fields, plus a slue of education and can't find anything either. Stay with your position, be happy with what you got, til you loose it or don't have it anymore! Don't be too selfish, many unemployed people out there would love to take your position at moments notice.

Management

Try going to local networking groups in your area. They can be found on the internet. Also maybe a personal visit to the VA Center and ask to speak with someone in the Vocational area may be of some help. Good luck.

Christopher. ..When I got out...I had to be willing to start much lowere on the food chain and work my way back up. With a B.S. degree I was able to increase my salary by $20 K to $53k within 1.5 yrs.. Try to get something at a USAF base. There are usually some good contractors available there. Hope this helps.

Hey Christopher, have you been applying to the jobs posted to the VA site? http://www.vacareers.va.gov/ A lot of the jobs on here are specifically looking for veterans, so that may help your job search.

Hey Christopher, I found a couple of options for you in that area happening this week: RecruitMilitary has a Job Fair in Dallas Tomorrow 11/19 - here’s the info http://tinyurl.com/RecruitMilitaryJobFair Home Depot also has one tomorrow in Dallas, see info here - http://tinyurl.com/HomeDepotCareerFair Best Buy has F/T Warehouse position in Flower Mound, TX - http://tinyurl.com/nsg3p5l FedEx Ground has a sort observation on Sat 11/21 - follow this link to make appointment - http://tinyurl.com/FedExSortObservation

Hey Christopher,
My guess is that you will probably encounter a lot of people that don't know exactly what a military operational manager does. But I'm sure there are lots of your abilities that translate into the civilian world. Looking at your profile, I would write some detailed descriptions about the types of skills that are necessary to do your job. Let people know what you are good at. That way, employers can understand how you can be of value to them.
Best of luck, Matthew
