I am a retired educaitional administrator. I am finding it difficult to find a job I would enjoy.
What type of job should I seek as a retired educator? It seems most positions are looking for a much younger applicant. I like administration but I don't want to teach in the classroom anymore. I already taught K-12 and most recently have been an adjunct professor at a local private university. What can I do? My self-esteem is way down right no.

Try st leo university

Where u live in santa cruz i live in santa cruz i need a friend

Gloria Miranda: Try to volunteer for a school district, so you can see what vacancies they have and where you would fit in. They will see you skills and maybe find and opening for you. You could also volunteer at a school to see where the needs are.
If you are on the upside of 40, you will find it difficult to locate a new job, due to companies not wanting to hire employees that will require the need for pension accrual. This is even thoguh there are protections against those over 40. Problem is, employers are not called on the carpet often enough to enforce the Federal Law about older workers. Companies don't really care, because they want to get rid of pension plans due to the high cost of maintaining them. Actuarial costs can't be hidden by depreciation write downs now. Majority of companies lost the benefit of hiding pension & medical benefit costs when they didn't replace plant & equipment in the late 1970's through the 1990's. With that loss of depreciation, companies were at the liberty of having to acknowledge that pensions were too costly to afford, and as were medical benefit plans they were carrying for employees.
The 401(k) and 403 plans & ESOPs were not coming of age fast enough to save some companies like the should have. Now companies are forcing 'baby boomer' and others form the 1960's to retire early, and are replacing them with employee that are less experienced.
Look around at Human Resource departments at various companies. You will mostly see managers that are 35 to 40 years of age and look to young to know what they are doing. Most HR managers are new to their job and are just someone to occupy the office until a company can find someone with HR experience. The executive assistant will be a different employee next month. Or next week.
So watch for those that are hiring only those under 35, and putting them in a position of authority.

Hello, Gloria, Why is your self esteem down? You sound like you have accomplished much in your time! Since you do not want to teach any more, sit down and think about what you DO want to do. Once that is figured out, Pull out your resume and gear it accordingly. There are many different skills involved in teaching that would fit in other fields (i.e. counseling for one) that you could apply to new areas. By doing this, you can be better armed for figuring out where you want to go into. In doing your resume, and/or cover letter, ensure your grammar and spelling are spot on, since this will be an employer's first contact with you. I hope these ideas help to get you started.

Look for a position as a quality inspection. Since you are retired the $$ isn't a factor. It will keep you busy and extra money l
