Would you interview for a job you didn't really want?

I had a phone interview this week and honestly I thought I tanked it. It was for a position that is a little out of my league and the company culture is one where they expect you to be married to your job and I've been there, done that. I know I started the interview strong but then she started asking questions that I really didn't know how to answer and I literally was making stuff up! When the recruiter emailed and asked how it went I wrote back that I didn't think it went very well. I almost fainted when she emailed later that day and said they wanted a face to face interview with me!

I'm still hoping to get a position I interviewed for a couple of weeks ago. I called to find out if it had been filled and it has not because the manager had been out due to a death in the family. He just returned to work yesterday, so I'm still in the running for it. However, as we all know anything can happen in the nasty world of job hunting and I'm wondering if I should go for the one I don't really want. Bottom line, I need the money! I've worked for two years at 1/2 the salary and the stress of not making enough to pay the bills is taking its toll as well as the depression from working at a job I'm overqualified for.

So, what would you do?

Rhonda,

I would continue to interview. No job is yours until you walk in on the first day. Even offers can be rescinded. You have control over the job search process! Good luck!
