HardWorking Self Starter!!

She gets SCREAMED at!

My baby sister works for Macy's and likes the company a lot but she has had some issues with one of her managers. She constantly screams at her. It's pretty embarrassing. I gave her some advice, but it doesn't seem to be working. I told her to sit down with the woman and have a heart to heart. She is nervous she will get fired. Anyone know how I can help my sister??

"she has had some issues with one of her managers. She constantly screams at her. It's pretty embarrassing." Hmm, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction cause and effect.

Yelling actually has supporters in the business world. Big names such as Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos have a reputation for losing control and yelling. The counterargument is that yelling is counterproductive: Instead of motivating employees to do better, it lowers the quality of their work or drives them away completely.

Before talking to HR about what can be done, start keeping track of the yelling incidents. Keep a journal and record each one, with details. Always keep a copy for yourself, even if you give one to someone else.

Next, talk to HR about whether your company has an anti-bullying policy, or any other rules relevant to the situation. Even if your company has an anti-bullying policy in place, it may not be an open-and-shut matter whether your boss's bellowing violates it. If you belong to a union, talk to your rep for advice.

Steps to Take Some belligerent bosses don't just yell, they threaten. If your boss threatens to assault you, talk to someone immediately. If you feel seriously in danger, it may be better to quit than risk physical injury.

Short of that level of awfulness, the usual first step is to ask your boss to stop. Show how often he's yelling; explain you're not comfortable with it and ask him to lay off. This probably won't be fun, but showing you've made a good faith effort will help if you take legal action.

If your boss is violating company policy, file a complaint with HR. Definitely, do this if it's a protected-class harassment matter; companies are legally required to take them seriously. If the company won't protect you from harassment, you can file a complaint with the state or federal government, and then a lawsuit. If your boss is merely yelling and doesn't rise to the level of bullying, there's not much anyone can do.

Record her doing that . Show the recording to upper management. That is not a great representation of a business and I’m sure they will fire her or take action immediately. That is bad business and shame on her for doing that . With the proof Of a recording it will stop . It’s not illegal to record in a public place either . I’m willing to bet this lady will not have a job after that especially if she is doing it in front of customers. Good luck to you and your sister .

she should record her and then show her how se is acting. not to use it against her in any other way but to show her how she really acts and the fact that she has this recording may help .

CUSTOMER SERVICE REP "SMG"

I AGREE! YOUR SISTER SHOULD ASK HER MANAGER IF SHE COULD TALK WITH HER/HIM IN A POLITE WAY; AND EXPLAIN HER FEELINGS. EXPLAIN TO THE MANAGER(S) THAT SHE'S NOT THEIR CHILD AND THAT HER PARENTS OR ANYONE ELSE DOESN'T YELL @ HER AND NEITHER SHOULD THEM. TELL THE MANAGER(S) THAT WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER AND THAT SHE UNDERSTANDS THE PRESSURE(S) THE JOB HAS ON THEM; BUT THERE'S NO NEED TO DISRESPECT HER. AND THEN IF THAT DOESN'T WORK! THEN SHE WILL HAVE NO OPTION BUT TO CONTACT HER SUPERVISOR OR CORPORATE AND FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST HER/HIM. GOOD LUCK!

Manager at Exxon Tigermart

The manager is in the wrong and can lose her job over it. She needs to go above her head and report it. Also if she does get fired she has a hell of a case!

She boss screamed at your sister... tell her I understand your comments calmly and please don’t yell me. Your sister did not do anything wrong, it sounds like you have boss that’s bitter towards employees.
