Hi Jaree,
I hear your frustration and I totally get it. I've been there before myself many times. Here's the thing. Applying to a job is a numbers game. Everyone looking for a job is currently a salesman where the product you are selling is.. you. Salespeople know that you have to bang on a LOT of doors to get to a 'yes'. Rejection is part of the game. The problem is - it really stinks and its really hard to manage both the rejection that comes with a job search, or sometimes worse- the complete lack of ANY response. I get it.
But heres what you can do: Apply to 2-5 jobs/day (thats enough or you'll burn yourself out). After you apply you need to followup with each one with 2 calls. First call is the day after applying where you call and politely ask "hi, I applied for XX job yesterday and I'd just like to confirm you have my application please?" Second call is one week later (if you haven't heard from them) where you ask "Hi, I applied for XX and would like to know if I am being considered for the position - if so, I'd love to stop in this week and meet the hiring manager"). Very few people followup . This will help your odds and make sure that your app is getting the attention it deserves.
Do this for 2 weeks and guess what. You will have applied to about 50 jobs with great followup techniuques and now the numbers are in your favor. No offer, do it for another 3 weeks. It will happen for you. The economy is better right now. But you need to hang in there and keep your attitude up.
Hope this helps! We are all rooting for you. You can find lots of great jobs here in our jobs section from ourselves, from Indeed, Careerbuilder and others that we aggregate in one place to make it easy for you. And suggest you get some former co-workers to praise you to increase your profile - cuz then employers can find you!
Good luck Jaree and thanks for being part of Jobcase!
