Is it ethical to connect with employees who work in companies that offer employee referral incentives?

I’m not sure if this is an ethical approach to getting hired or a bribe but I’m just trying to think outside of the box to my foot inside the door.

Sounds good to me Marc. I don't see anything wrong with that and the employees usually get cash if your hired.

Good advice from others, so here is my two cents worth. A company that offers referral incentives/bonuses is doing it for a few reasons: 1) Getting candidates that are somewhat vetted by the employee making the refferal; 2) Saving recruiting fees; 3) Keeping a steady stream of potential candidates coming through the door to keep the pipeline filled and 4) Providing what some employees feel is a perk. None of those reasons has anything to do with being unethical. Therefore, I see it as another tool to use in finding a job and if you are looking for a job, then why not use any and all tools in your toolbox? It is not about the referral, it is about getting your foot in the door to show the company what you can do to help them grow their business. Good luck.

If you really want to answer this question, look to God and read his 10 Commandments. You can find it in Exodus 20. Any questions you need answers to, you can find in the Word. The bible is actually a good book. It's very interesting and will keep you close to your creator for help anytime you need it. God bless you and good luck with obtaining the job meant for you.

Most of all your major companies having been doing this for years. The reasoning behind this if you are a valid employee and you suggest to the company someone, the company feels that you not recommend that person if you felt they could not benefit and help your company. So I see no problem in doing this. I would recommend someone who could help with the company I work for.

It sounds as if you are really asking if it's ok for the employee to split the money with you should you be hired. Otherwise, the whole point of the company offering the employee's an incentive is moot, because the company is clearly using its employees as a sort of recruiting agency without having to pay the recruiting company costs. There is nothing unethical about that as long as everyone is clear on what their roles are.

And what they employee does with his or her incentive money (ie. kicking a portion back to you) is not the company's business.

HAHA.. i like this approach MS. Sounds a little shady but now a days you have use every tool in the shed. go for it that's what social media is there for. Let me know if it works out so I can get to it as well.

I agree with Marijoy- definitely ok to network with anyone that you can. However, do not use the employee referral as a tactic to secure the job...that does not seem too fair..

sure - you should try to network with anyone you think might help you get a job. whether or not a company has a referral program isn't really a concern for the job seeker. now... do NOT offer a bonus to an employee yourself... that's Definitely off limits!!
