Most of my work experience is in the restaurant industry. Although I have had other jobs and have many other skills, most employers don't look past food service. How, besides my cover letter, can I convey to them that I am not a 'burger flipper' ?

Heather, Your work history is your work history so there's no use in trying to hide that fact. Clearly identify how working in that industry has prepared you to succeed in the new job you're pursing. What are the transferrable skills between food service and your new career path. I can think of a few... (Customer Service Excellence, problem solving, multi-tasking, teamwork, attention to detail, fast learner, planning, organization skills, communication skills, cash handling. Food service workers are dynamic, customer centric, and very resilient. "Burger flipper", I don't think so, do you? If not, then let them know why!
