Transition
After nearly ten years, I was laid off from my job. The transition out was fine, but now the job hunt begins. I have nearly 10 years doing one thing, being a payroll manager. I want a career change and at 45, Im finding company's are wanting a unique skill set with 'x' amount of years with experience. Tough road ahead for me?

I know what you are going through, I went to school for a career change, everywhere I have applied wants experience. How do you get experience when places overlook 0 years of experience?

I know exactly what you are saying, I am 48 and was at a Newspaper for just short of 10 years, I left because they were hiring managers to clean house, it was horrible. it seems now if you spend a good amount of time at a place, no one wants to hire you. this used to be a good thing to stay at a job for an extended amount of time, from what I am seeing it's not the case anymore. I am not interested in going back to advertising. I interviewed at one place, and all the guy could say is why don't you go back into advertising you have so many years in that field. I have a job currently but it's only part-time. and I know the owner from a previous job. still looking for full time
