Old School
It's hard enough that the industry is tanking and jobs are being lost but what happened to old school rules. Back in the day you could walk into a company office and fill out an application and someone would actually look at you and talk to you. Today unless you can impress someone with a bunch of words in a CV there is no chance in getting any feed back not even a thanks but no thanks. Face to Face used to be the best way to judge someone not by how the can spread the butter on a piece of paper. Frustrated and annoyed.

I recently just got a job as a operator. Before I could even get a interview I had to take a test with 900 other people. Then I had to do a work demonstration with 3 other guys while 3 or 4 judges graded us. From that point I got called in for a interview. I had 3 interviews in one day. All were panel interviews with 4 to 5 people in each one. Its tough out there.

Today the job market is all about the Internet and the computerized systems.Don't let that get you down.I am now unemployed for 2nd time since Obama.4 months and counting, 11months 2009 & 10. May 19th 2010 Jesus saved me,now I serve Him. Best boss ever.Trust The lord Jesus Christ.

A lot of it has to do with Millennials. They're in positions to hire now, and very few are comfortable with face to face interaction. If it's not online and takes longer than 140 characters to deal with, they won't. Their whole lives have been lived through either their smartphones or their computers, and even desktops are going the way of the dino.

You're so right Michael times have changed but there are other networking options available. I see you have a LinkedIn account listed on your Jobcase profile. This article mentions GE hiring initiative within the oil and gas division in Houston. There's also a executive contact name in the article. Search for her on LinkedIn and send here a message. Bold move.... but what do you have to loose. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2016/03/ge-exec-were-hiring-in-oil-and-gas.html

Hi Michael: I definitely agree with you - it feels like you're no longer trying to apply for a job, you're just tailoring your resume for a computer. It can be frustrating and demoralizing, but I look at it this way: I can get that human contact by following up on my application a few days after I submit it. That way, I can ask questions about the interview process, and employers get the chance to see why I'm so enthusiastic for a job.
No shit!!! I hate all this impersonal bull Shit that they require for job applications now a days!!! What ever happened to a man's word and a a handshake!!!
