Terrence, have you checked with or google searched aviation acadamies or aviation based charter schools to see what jobs they are teaching their students to prepare for? I'm sure you would find many websites. Also check out the many airport websites and see, besides flight information, what they have to offer.

AOCE usually has several openings at Kirtland AFB. They are civilian jobs, and you'd have to get clearance if you're chosen, but I have it on good authority that they often look at a persons perseverance and work ethics vs. specific qualifications. They often have jobs for trainers who teach using the 3D simulators. The other place that sometimes has jobs in ABQ is Flight Safety International. Good luck.

The good news is there are more avenues today than in the last few decades, with lots of CFI positions. But - there’s virtually no easy path to get “over the low-time hump”. (Okay, had a roommate at Embry-Riddle who had flown his Dad’s Aztec from the time he had accrued 300 Hrs, of SE time starting from his 16th BD-solo; when I met him he was a college senior with 2,100 Hrs total time, of which 1,800 was ME! He’s a long-retired FedEx captain who owns three A/C and literally lives in the Bahamas!) But for the rest of us, it takes at least 200 hrs & a CFI. There are flight schools that will help accrue time via “plow-back” and mortgaging your future earnings by trading payback via low-pay time-building commuter jobs, and even then only after you’ve 500-to-1000 Hrs. And, you may need a college degree as well. Hey, would you go to a Doctor who only met minimum standards via lowest-cost medical school with minimal practice? Flying stroll requires physical skills and good head work, but your more apt to utilize a computer science degree over one in aero engineering. Aviation Management is another solid avenue. At the end of the day, othing will stop “fire in the gut”! If it’s the career you want, you’ll find a way.

Hi Terrence: Here's a few suggestions for aviation positions near your area. You might also want to look into internship programs to get your foot in the door.
