Just want an opinion on my supervisor reading my text massages on my phone. I was not aloud to have my phone on me, so I left the phone in the laundry room. So she read my text massage about an other family that I once considered working for. But at the time it was about a friend that I had referred. She accuse me of many things, and asked me to make up my mind to stay or quit. I end up Quitting the job. Can anyone give me a input on that?

Hi Elda, As always I generally read all the replies to the comments on jobcase. In your situation, several things happened to you none of them good. First of all; yes it was your cell phone I'm presuming so no one including your supervisor should have gone anywhere near it. If you brought it inside to work with you because you have family members who might need to get in contact with you in an emergency then thats a valid reason to keep it on your person. I've been a supervisor. What yours did was not only wrong but illegal. And yes you still have the right to sue her whether you continue to work there or not because she violated your privacy and committed tortuous indifference with the information on your phone. People need to be properly screened and held accountable for their actions as supervisors. Employees need to understand the rules and follow them. I indeed would move on, lesson learned my dear. Wow! Elda....I would have had a fit! A royal fit! Our parents taught us DON'T PUT YOUR HANDS ON THINGS THAT DOES "NOT" BELONG TO YOU! Period! Ernest Mc...I hear you, but understand I work in office atmosphere and I wish my spvr would touch my phone. I leave it on my desk volume muted of course....I don't care if one is in the courtroom...ppl are not suppose to put their hands on what does not belong to them...Now, if she had dropped the phone or left it behind..I get that, but again that does not mean go through the phone...that's just plain RUDE! I'm not mad at your for quitting.....
If your phone was left in the laundry room by mistake , a simple " Hey does this belong to anyone ?" would be appropriate . I don't see how anyone has the right to look through your phone and read your messages ... That seems a little extreme. If the text was bold and out there for anyone to see when it was picked up, then that may be how she came to read it... It is so easy to get frustrated when you feel your back is against the wall. That is the time to compose yourself and try not to react out of emotions, think about what you are saying before you say it. Our feelings and emotions can cause us to make mistakes that you regret later on ..

You can do that there's a phone out there not hard to find.
Invasion of privacy is against the law and she did just that. If that is your personal phone she has no business in reading your personal text.
So, why dont you use the phones lock feature? Remember the great scene in Full Metal Jacket when the DI discovers the unsecured foot locker? Remember what he said? Still true and applies here.
