What can I do to earn more money waitressing?

I took on this p/t waitress job to make some extra money for the holidays but so far the tips haven’t been what you would call a good reflection of the “Holiday Spirit”. Customers say they enjoyed my service but it’s obvious I’m doing something wrong. Santa will be here soon....Help!!

I think it depends where you work. Tips at Hooters or a high end Steakhouse will be nice because people going there can afford to splurge.

Mrs. Parker: I have never work as a waitress but I did work as a mother and as a daughter that includes waitress, cleaning lady, mother and everything else in the line. Now being in the position of the person being serve, I will tell you that waitressing is a job that needs to be taking seriously like any other job, is more than being pleasant to the customers, is an skill. I remember in California being waitressed in a traditional restaurant by a gentleman, and I have to say a gentleman, because from the time I got to the restaurant his demeanor and manners were of someone who learn top quality hostess business. He was impeccably dressed, polite, he pulled my chair to sit, carried his towel folded in the arm, spoke English to perfection and made me fill like a million dollars. He got a super tip that made for the whole day of work. Never than that before, but I developed such an incredible respect for those who are willing to serve others, that I truly thought that he deserve it. I believe in life if you enjoy your job, learn as much as you can about it, and display it in a practical way. People will develop a great appreciation. Being a waitress in a fast pace restaurant must be hard, but you have a job and only you can make it AWSOME! I never forgot this young man. All the best for 2016!

Debbie, Sorry for the late post. Hopefully my words from experience will help you in the future. I have been in the Server/Bartender Hospitality Industry since I was 14, NOW I AM 40. Took after my Mother who is still a waitress at 60 years of age and 24 years with same Company. There is 5 trigger points you must cover at all times. First, ALWAYS acknowledge and speak in an inviting manner as soon as your customer is inside the door. Secondly, ALWAYS let your customer know, "I apologize for the wait, I will be with you as soon as possible. When you are busy, they can see that, but you speaking to them makes them feel as important. Third, if you are lucky enough to have a bus person assist you, YOU definitely should be making money, YOU two are partners, build a strong working relationship and own it. Fourth, work smarter, not harder, have you memorized all menu items and prices, if customers ask you about your menu, ingredients, can you answer immediately? Fifth and final, customers come in from all different types, age, race, humor, patience, no patience? Just remember if you treat all customers, how YOU like to be treated, YOU are doing a magnificent job, tips will role in. Repeat customers is the key. Ohh and no matter what, won't always be able to make every customer HAPPY! But most. Good luck, let me know! Goldeloxlv@gmail Las Vegas

Try to sell more drinks at your tables. Hate to say this but people are more generous after a few drinks.
