Responsible for a variety of venipuncture techniques involving the collection of blood specimens from patients for lab procedures and used in diagnosis. Take vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse and temperature; accurately collect DNA, urine, and saliva samples for drug testing; collect for cancer screenings Perform clerical duties including; preparing files and reports, monitor and replenishes supplies and maintains work areas
Accurately find a vein and withdraw the blood sample while attempting to provide as little pain as possible to the recipient.
The key to success as a phlebotomist is to be as open and friendly with your patients as possible. Even if you're new and have no confidence in yourself, patient care is always the top priority.
To be a good specimen procurer, patient relations , customer service teaching all lab specimibe collections and knowing what to draw for tests ordered

Pay close attention to the orders so you can determine the correct tubes and tests to utilize. Patients will always give you a tough time, make them feel comfortable as much as possible, didn't take anything personal, it's okay to ask for help, do not stick if you dont feel confident, stick to the antiseptic technique no matter who or what says otherwise, unless its from the authorities that set those protocols and order of draw is highly important due to the additives in each tube.
