The unemployment process is so overwhelming and I am scared I am going to inadvertently give the wrong info. It is so stressful to try to apply for 2/jobs week. I have been tailored for a specific job and there are no relevant jobs out there for me. How does everyone navigate the waters and hold it together. I feel I have literally lost my career and feel like I have to just apply for something when I am qualified for nothing. I have never been unemployed in my life. The trends in healthcare have waxed/waned so much that I don't even no where to start to re-invent myself.

I applied online. get your resume out, you apply online, it is not rocket science. www.mich.gov/uia click on employees and apply for a new claim. Input all the information they request. You do not need to report any jobs now I don't think. I didn't for the extension and got it. If you want it bad enough you will do it. Best of luck. if you have question find me on facebook. I do it

I was laid off 6 months ago after being at my job for over 25 years, unemployment sign was very overwhelming. My advice is take your time when signing up. Also be very patient, they are damn near impossible to actually get a hold of someone there (here in California). After this long I have had to widen my scope for a new job. And with my unemployment about to come to an end (max here is 6 months), I will have to accept any job that will have me. Keep you head up, be patient and good luck.

LOL....if applying to unemployment is challenging for you...oh boy you best buckle up. I live in NYC and they require looking at 5 different job boards per day. That does not mean applying to 5 jobs per day. That means you have to show 5 areas where you did apply to jobs. They will call you in every 5 weeks to check that your doing it. I just show them all the emails as every time you apply to a job some job boards send you an email showing you did apply for that position. Do not delete those emails. You should also save any job you apply to on the boards as you can show them all of those too. Plus it is a great tool to go back to that job for the details prior to an interview so you are current and can discuss the topics that are important for the role. Look MILLIONS of people are going to be unemployed due to Covid-19 and unemployment is aware not many companies will be posting jobs let alone hiring. When we had a recession a few years ago finding a job was extremely challenging and we are in the exact same boat right now as even when this virus situation calms down it will be awhile before companies start hiring again. That is a fact. Unemployment is well aware trust me. As long as they see you are indeed looking and applying that is all they need to see. If you don't land interviews they will understand it is due to the times we are facing. They also want to see that you are applying to positions beneath your level of experience or outside your field. They will take your searching seriously and that you are applying to jobs just to take on a job. Most states have a 26 week period to collect unemployment. During the recession unemployment was extended to 99 weeks under Obama. If the unemployment rate goes up high enough they will do the same thing again unless idiot Trump stops it from happening. Which would be a very stupid thing to do but then our current leader of the free world is not the smartest tool in the shed. If unemployment does not extend its time frame people will flock to welfare just like during the recession. If you think unemployment is a challenge just wait until you have to apply at welfare like so many did several years ago. Be prepared to spend your entire day in their offices every time you go and your surrounded by low lives in their offices who live off welfare year after year. You will also need to bring copies of all your bills, showing any funds you may have anywhere, what you own like a car or house. It is extremely invasive to your personal life. I saw it for myself when a dear friend had to go down this road and I went with her several times just out of curiosity and support. Count yourself lucky you can even apply to unemployment as many people who have been working off the books who just lost their jobs will not be able to and are paddling up a river with no oar. I know a lot of restaurants who do not pay a wage and those workers survive on tips only. That includes food delivery people. Why I get so angry when I see people not leave a tip when they dine out or get food deliveries. I have a neighbor who NEVER tips and he gets food deliveries 3X a day. Its disgusting behavior. If he can afford to get food deliveries 3 X a day on a daily basis then he can afford to tip 2-3 bucks each time. Or learn how to cook his own food or use the legs God gave him to go out and get his own damn food.

Claudia I am currently on unemployment-my line of work is out there but no job offers. I kept sending notes to EDD to the point of telling them if they didn't send my checks, I was going to report this to the Govenor Gavin Newsome in order to quit the stalling. From the date you apply there is a 1 week wait period before benefits actually that-that means you won't see check for 3 weeks-it's quicker to do it online-www.edd.com-create an acct online & submit all the job searches in the time frame noted-(Sunday to Sat.). EDD prefers you apply to any kind of job but everyone tends to try to find a job in their line of work. So look for anything, apply to the job postings online, submit resume's via online, & make notes on paper the dates & the information for the posting which you will need to add this online showing this is a job search contact.

Yes the unemployment is a very nasty situation. Cause the company that you work for May denied you for benefits. And it takes 4-6 weeks before you may even receive benefits. It’s very hard. Good Luck

So sorry you lost your job. There are lots of jobs online....2 per week should be very easy to accomplish. Sounds like you might be well off to apply for entry level jobs if you can't find something in your field. There are many listed. Don't worry...if you apply for lots of jobs..you will eventually get one of them.
