No i just think they should not discriminate just because of your age! i worked in the Oilfields of east Texas for the last 16 years of my life I had a good Paying job but since the Down turn in Price of oil there were massive Layoff! I have applied for many of Class B driving Jobs but it seem's once they find out how old you are they are not interested. I'am not overweight i walk every day of the week for 30 minutes but no luck!!!!! I have Class A license but no years of Driving Experience in this type of Vehicle ! The local trash Company Republic waste Has good benefits and a great Pay scale but Because of Age no Luck !!! I have Applied there a Dozen times But The Only Thing That seems to Be a problem is My Age!!!! 53

Shouldn't all applicants be treated with the same amount of respect???? I think what you meant to ask is whether your years of work experience should make you a better candidate for a job. That would depend on the job, wouldn't it? For example, I have come across postings for internships where new graduates are preferred. In that case my years of experience is not given as much leverage as a candidate with little experience because they want someone they can train just so. On the other hand, some posting want someone with say 10 years of experience, because they want someone with a strong knowledge the industry.

I prefer it when employers substitute applicable education for experience. I think anyone with great knowledge or experience should be respected regardless of age. But let's face it, someone who has been at the job for several years, has a lot to offer.

Somewhat, yes I do, be it full time or part time if you have the qualified background for certain jobs then you should be considered first! And if you cannot work up to par then you can move on to try something else more suitable for yourself. If you still have the mind and the energy to work, you should be able to!

Everyone should be treated with respect, regardless of age. But when your take age into consideration, experience, ethics, work skills, dependability, focus, ought to be taken into the big picture. Like others have said, I don't check facebook or email all day long. I don't play games in the down moments. I know how to get along with people, and communicate with respect. I do not gossip or make things hard for others. I have learned that life is too short to drag around useless baggage. I have learned to live in the NOW, in the moment, and enjoy every breath I take.

Yes. (In a sense) ie: older & wiser/ more experience. But I wouldn't just assume I'd get more respect. I've TONS of experience in the work force; problem is.... Employers 'back then' have no record bc it was too long ago.

Well, am 55 years young! There are levels of respect we as Senior applicants have the knowledge too forge ahead regardless if we are bypass by an organization. Yes I have had many opportunities that I was looked over because of my age but I had the same organization too call me back in for a second or even a third interview because I was so empressive during the interview. First u must seek a job you as a person love too do, then you must sell yourself and convince the person sitting across from you they will be missing out on a great opportunity if they bypass you. I have confidence in me! I know you guys do also all we know is work but we also must remember that ethics in the work place has a double edge also. Be a good listener, body language tells me a lot last but not least the younger generation wants respect and the only way they're going to receive it is by learning from the Seniors it's earned not given.
