Integrity
Why does it seem to be so acceptable to lie in so many postings to attract candidates? Recently, I was hired by a company that sought me out for a management position due to my directly related background. As it was presented to me, I was to be instrumental in building the division I was to manage. I was excited at the prospect of not only working again, but having an opportunity to help build something. Based on every conversation after starting, I realized virtually everything I was told was a lie. By the fourth day, we had a conversation about the lies he told to get me to join the firm, and his abusive manner in general. He told me he needed to fill the positions & would have said anything he had to. Needless to say, that was it. I also interviewed with 2 different companies that reached out to me (based on my experience & background), for sales manager positions. Once I went to the interviews, the interviewer asked me why I would be willing to accept an entry level sales position with my experience level. When I reminded him they had called me for the sales management position, and I didn't know what he was referring to, he replied that while that was true, everyone works as entry level sales for 6 months first to ensure they're worth it. I'm starting to wonder if I'm expecting too much to want to be treated honestly. It may sound corny to some, but I guess I really am old school. When I give my word, and commit to a company, that's it. They get 100% of my effort, and my loyalty.
Isn't the Sales industry notorious for bending the truth? Anything to "make a sale" right?
