Whatever you do, don't waste your time.

I lived in Buffalo, NY and I moved to Charlotte, NC for a Mobile Device Manager position at Nexcom. Upon relocation, I was informed about training. There was supposed to be a portion of training materials created for me, as a lot of the information I would need was account specific. Shadowing seasoned employees was also part of the training program. None of this was in place. Upon arrival, my first day, the hiring manager was not there. I sat with another employee whom was unaware that my training would be her "responsibility." My manager, who looked as if she rolled out of bed, everyday, was unhelpful in all areas. After being there for 5 months, figuring out things on my own, I had an account specific question for my manger and was told that she didn't know the answer, in a very snarky instant message. An hour later, I was taken into a room with HR, and my manager told me it wasn't working out, it was her fault, and that she didn't have "time to train me."

I had a similar experience working for a sweepstakes's in Charlotte NC. I was literally give 5 mins of instructions on how to count the 5 drawers I would be responsible for down at the end of the night. After that I was left alone for a 10 ht shift. I muddled through that night, luckily there were only minor issues. The next day wasn't so lucky, this time alone on a 12 hr shift, machines started going crazy, people started winning large amounts of money and I wasn't show en anything at all about either.. I actually had to google sweepstakes's law to find out tax forms had to be done and when I called the manager who interviewed me and did my 5 min training to ask any questions I got no reply, so I called the owner who actually hired me, and got a reply for the manager telling me the owner was her boss and she was mine, even though she had not answered. To top all that off the owner pops in at the end of 12 crazy hours alone on a 5 drawer register in a 100 game sweepstakes's and tells me I am also supposed to clean the toilet. I should have known it was a Terrible idea when my manager interviewed me seemly on drugs.. Needless to say, I told the owner I didn't feel the job was a correct fit and moved on. I was never even paid for the 22 hrs I worked for the company.

OMG, what a horrible experience Taylor. I'm sorry to hear you made such a long trek to be disappointed like that. No one takes the time to properly train and onboard new employees anymore. Everyone is overwhelmed with their own responsibilities to extend any time to help someone who needs it. Unfortunately, today the expectation is be proactive, learn as you go, keep your mouth shut and hope for the best. Were you able to land a new job in NC?
