You don’t need to get recertified to apply for a medical assistant position, but make sure you have valid excuse as to why you have not worked in the medical field. Employers will be understanding if a family member was sick or you were furthering your education. The skills you previously attained as a medical assistant are still relevant, so it’s easier for employers to focus on training you for a specific department. There are a lot of other high paying entry level medical jobs available, too.

Hi, I went to school and graduated with a RMA in 2002 and I could not find a job due no experience and I feel at the time I was being passed to to being overweight. I let it go and worked my but off in other positions. And I’m 52 and wanting to know what can I do to obtain my life as a RMA. Do I have to back to school and start all over. 2 years again?

I have the same question the other person commented. Hi i went to school in 2009 and graduated for medical assisting but never got certified. I did work as a medical assistant for a couple years but it’s been years since then. Can I still try to work as a medical assistant today in 2023? Or do i have to take a refresher course???
