I need a vacation
I am really needing a break and want to get away from work and life for a little while. Only problem is I really don't have enough money to take a vacation. I want to get out of my city for awhile but that requires funds for travel, hotel, food, not to mention stuff to do. How can I get a break and a reset when I can't even afford it?

Lol my husband that I never see is an expert at knowing in detail about yr question.

That sucks and I'm sorry about that...

Come on don't you have a credit card.

Read about social life events in your city or state. Each one tries to bring in business by telling tourist how awesome it is to come there. Read a paper, and see what tickles your fancy.

All are excellent ideas. In fact, I used to live in Parkville MD and we'll let's just say I know what the cost of living is like. I wanted to get away as well and also couldn't afford a traditional vacation. Places like Rock State Park and Gunpowder state park don't cost anything but a few bucks in fuel. I would got for the day just to hike or ride the trails and sometimes we would camp of the trails. These trips were a great recharge and helped save for the beach trips in the summer thus, killing two birds with one stone. Hope this helps.

Buy a tent and a sleeping bag and go camping! It will still get you away for a little while, plus you'll be able to enjoy nature for a little bit. Much cheaper and you can invite some friends to go with, which would be really fun!

I definitely agree with Brian. Also, check out deal sights like Groupon and Livingsocial. They do getaway packages that will sometimes include the travel and hotel for really cheap.

I'd suggest you start putting some money into a savings account. Every little bit can help and may build up faster than you realize. You can start small or big. The best way would be to move it immediately to the savings account, or some sort of jar (whatever works best for you), right when you get your paycheck. That way you don't even consider it as part of your budget for the month
Hi Sylvia: All of the suggestions already posted (set aside $ from each pay check, camping, checking out the social events and attractions your city's got to offer) are all great ideas. I would also add that until you have the funds, take day trips to national parks (if within reasonable driving distance) or make a point to do something completely out of your regular routine each weekend. This is the time of year where a lot is going on. Fall farmer's markets, Holiday Bazaars, plays, choir performances, symphonies, sports (yes, even bowling or going to the batting cage helps!), cooking/barbecue competitions, etc. Sometimes a little stay-vacation can help to refresh and recharge you enough to make it to where you can get away for a full vacation. Hope this helps!
